For the first time in living memory, more young people are staying in Cornwall than leaving to study. Thanks to the Labour government and Objective 1 funding, the innovative Combined Universities in Cornwall has transformed higher and further education in the county.
Candy Atherton, Labour MP for Falmouth & Camborne played a key role in the development of CUC and made sure the project got Ministerial approval shortly before the 2001 General Election. The campus at Tremough opened in September 2005 after a lot more work.

The expansion and improved facilities at the Falmouth college mean that young people like Barney (who was born just a few miles away) have access to fantastic higher education in their home county.
The Combined Universities now include Dartington College of Arts and Camborne School of Mines.
The CUC is an important step forward for Cornwall's economic future like the Wave Hub off Hayle http://www.wavehub.co.uk/, also supported by Labour.
While ground-breaking renewable technology is being developed off the coast, research and teaching of engineering skills needed to put Cornwall at the forefront of the green economy is happening at Tremough.
Labour is delivering for Cornwall.
